I liked the imagery of the boiling sea and the moving mountains, and sands heat-emphasizing the words with “heat” and “red”. This creates an entire world that is different from our poem. This poem is science fiction to the maximum. I really liked the rhyming in this poem in combination with the repeated word choice. Ready the Weyrs, all riders fly Red Star Passes. Seas boil and mountians move, Sands heat, dragons prove Red Star passes, Stones piles and fires burn, Green withers, arm Pern. I don’t understand the line about the grandma in the end, but I understood what the poem was saying about humanity. Stating men seem to be the dominate now, however, they tone suggest that they are more cruel. However this poem becomes more serious around the 6 th stanza. I liked the subject of this poem, females being the dominate species. I’m not sure if these were intentional or if that’s how they got into the book. I think that this is about a woman who is locked inside a room and at the end she realizes that the door locks from the inside, and that she could’ve gotten out the whole time. I wish I knew what the content was in order to determine if this is important to the poem or just something that happened. There was a repeated “s” sound throughout most of the poem. I did notice some technical things, however. I honestly have no idea what this poem is about. As in a lot of literature we’ve read, the butterfly has desired to go back to what they had before. I liked the idea that, though a life may seem carefree and perfect, they have trials and regrets as well. This was an interesting take on the evolution of man/civilizations. I liked the stanza about the anthropoidal ape and how they act as like he’s not smart when he is the smartest of them all. The point of the poem is that when one comes up against and obstacle they must trudge on. I liked that he tried to bargain, beg, and fight with Prejudice when the real answer was to walk through it. I liked the metaphor of the worm traveling through the wood.Įvery other word rhymes within this poem. I also really liked the last few lines about having no regrets. I really like that this poem talks about the importance of memories because, as we’ve read in the other books, people loose many important things when they loose memories. The rhyme scheme of this one is ABABCDCD…etc. It seems they had no choice but to partake in this journey. I don’t understand the “left a galaxy of dreams behind…”. They’ve been traveling for a hundred years. Some have not waken up from the sleep while others are finding it hard to cope with their new reality. I think this is a narrative that describes a journey of people in which they were put to sleep on their spaceship. I noticed the rhyme scheme of this one immediately. The poem had great flow to it and I enjoyed the structure of the four line four stanzas. Perhaps this is an invasion that will occur. I think it’s about a vision in which the cyclon, posing as a human, is envisioning another world that will replace ours. I’m not sure I understand what this poem is about. There’s a half rhyme that’s present with “dream” and “programming”. This poem is much more lyrical than narrative, because, though it is telling a story, it is much more emotive. A lot of the novels we’ve read in class have the same theme of perfection leading to boring and a safe that strips away humanity. This poem has a lot to do with how avoiding danger and hurts creates a boring and safe world. Things like the sun will be implanted into houses and they will not remember what the sun is anymore. This poem is talking about changes that will occur in the future.
